Andrea Popejoy Named McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison of the Year by Arizona Housing Coalition
[Prescott Valley, January 11, 2024] – The Arizona Housing Coalition (AZHC) proudly announces Andrea Popejoy as the McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison of the Year award recipient. This prestigious honor is in recognition of Ms. Popejoy's outstanding dedication and exemplary service in addressing the needs of the homeless community.
As a Homeless Liaison Officer (HLO) assigned to Patrol and various other critical assignments, Andrea Popejoy has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing rapid and essential resources to the homeless population. Her efforts align seamlessly with the McKinney-Vento Act, which mandates that local liaisons play a pivotal role in ensuring that children and youth experiencing homelessness are identified and supported.
The McKinney-Vento Act outlines crucial responsibilities for local liaisons, requiring them to collaborate with school personnel and other entities to identify and reach out to homeless students. Additionally, liaisons are tasked with developing, reviewing, and revising policies and procedures that eliminate barriers to identifying, enrolling, and retaining students experiencing homelessness.
"Andrea Popejoy's dedication to the principles of the McKinney-Vento Act has had a significant impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness in our community. Her tireless efforts have not only met the requirements of the Act but have gone above and beyond to create a positive and supportive environment for these vulnerable individuals," said Patrick Wellert, Principal for the AAEC-Prescott Valley.
AZHC is pleased to feature Andrea Popejoy prominently in their conference brochure, on-screen, and various promotional materials. Her recognition as McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison of the Year underscores the importance of addressing homelessness in our communities and the vital role that liaisons like Ms. Popejoy play in facilitating positive change.
The Arizona Housing Coalition's annual conference provides a platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaboration, and addressing the critical issues surrounding homelessness. By featuring Andrea Popejoy, AZHC aims to inspire others in the field and highlight the significance of their work.
